The New England Revolution are hoping to continue their run of form at the top of the Eastern Conference with a win over FC Dallas on Saturday.
The Revs beat the Dallas Stars 3-2 on Wednesday to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches and remain atop the Eastern Division, six points clear of fourth-place Montreal.
In that game, Dallas had to settle for a 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew in Columbus after conceding just three goals.
The Revs have now kept five clean sheets in their last six games and have not lost since March 25.
“It was a great performance,” said coach Jay Heaps.
“I think the guys came out hard and they got on the ball.
I think they played well defensively, so I think the win was important for us.”
The Revillos were outplayed for long stretches by Dallas on Wednesday.
They allowed the Stars to get a couple of goals on the counter attack, then got their hands on the game’s first two goals after being shut out for the first 25 minutes.
After that, the Revs kept playing, but Dallas did a good job keeping them quiet.
Dallas, who were outshot 7-0, scored three times in the first half to give the Revies a 4-0 lead at halftime.
But the Revillons finally found some space in the second half, converting a penalty kick in the 75th minute by midfielder Cristian Higuita.
Columbus was able to close out the scoring in the 86th minute.
Then, the Crew scored two more goals in the 80th minute to seal the victory.
Crew coach Gregg Berhalter called the match a “complete performance.”
“We had a lot of chances,” Berhalters said.
“It’s just a matter of finishing them.”
Columbia are in a tie with fourth-placed Chicago and will play at Columbus Crew Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams are coming off their two-game road trip.
The Crew play at FC Dallas at 8:30 p.m.
CT and the Revills will travel to New England on Saturday at 7 p.l.m., followed by a home match against the Philadelphia Union on Sunday.
Head coach and technical director Michael Burns said the win gives the Revss the confidence to continue.
Burns added: “We have to keep working on it and hopefully the guys come out and play good soccer.”
