FIFA has confirmed that Arsenal striker Alex Iwobodjic has died of an accidental overdose at the age of 24.
The Brazilian international’s body was found by police in the early hours of Saturday morning.
He had died of a heart attack, said a statement by FIFA, which also confirmed that his death is being treated as an “accident”.
Iwobodjiac was the second-youngest player to score in England’s Champions League final and scored in the 4-0 win over Barcelona in April.
In addition to his goals for Arsenal, Iwobobodjc also helped the club qualify for last season’s European Super Cup in Russia, where the team lost to Liverpool.FIFA said Iwobodiac was an “active and passionate footballer”, who “exemplified the importance of family and community”.
He was a member of the Under-18s and was an influential member of his club’s academy, where he was known as “The Old Man”.
